Spain update

It’s been a busy week.

Tue we went down to the beach front and had a quiet day with Brandy & Coffee followed by a drive around the countryside around Javea (the town where my parents live).

On Wed, we went for a drive to a place called “Guadalest” – the site of an 11th-century castle built my the Moors. It was a beautiful drive through the mountains with almond and orange trees everywhere. We stopped on the way at the top of a mountain called “Coll de Rates” where there was a German restaurant – so naturally we pigged out on Bratwurst and I had a very strange “Schwartz Brau” – black beer. Guadalest was a really nice little town, and Sarah and I visited the museum and hiked all the way up to the top of the castle.

On Thus, we went to the old part of town to the village market – very entertaining with lots of interesting foods. Then we drove to the next town up the coast – Denia (in the smartcar – lots of fun on the windy mountain roads) – where we wandered around the town and of course stopped for a drink down at the beachfront.

Yesterday we went down to the port, and walked along the whole beach front – had a drink, walked back, had another drink and came home (this is life in Spain – walking and drinking). I went out with my dad last night (Fri night is “pub night”) and when we got back, since it was such a clear night we got the telescope out – you could clearly see Venus, Saturn and Jupiter.

Not sure what we are doing today, but tonight we are going out for a meal with my parents and to see some traditional flamenco dancing which promises to be interesting. Tomorrow is our last day here, then off to Manchester and on to Bali!

I’ve taken a lot of pictures so far which I’ll likely upload tomorrow.
